During the course of placing together my animated footage of images and audio as well as then exporting the whole document as a movie file or onto you tube as a flash file I then discovered that by doing so my animation and audio become either out of sync slightly or the visual images become distorted and merge together. I have tried several attempts to get around this problem including using the IT specialists available at school to suggest a cure but so far it seems to be getting worse and I can either have the audio slightly out of sync or the visual images corrupted so I took the option of the audio as I felt that visual aspect was the main focus within my chosen field especially within animation. I also chose this option on the basis that you can see much more effort and the work gone into the animation side rather than simply inserting audio into the background.

The way I tried to combine all three of my texts together was done through firstly the use of choosing a colour theme and sticking to it throughout to really give my audience a connection and a colour theme recognition towards my film. The background itself is very pop arty styled and stands out from any other poster simply on the idea of making the background busy using the colour theme of black and white stripes along with simple black fonts that inform my audience of the release dates and slogan which effectively attract the audience using some punk rock lyrics by Alice Cooper- ‘Schools out for Summer. This song perhaps suggests that of a young teenager probably still a student who is into their music and can relate to the idea of being stuck in school so close to the school holidays. The idea of using animation within my trailer would also suggest this younger audience of teenagers rather then the older generation as it is based around the idea of Juno where the style is very similar to that of young children’s comic magazine as well as using bold and pop art styled colours that instantly attract my target audience. The magazine again also I used this idea of red, black and white to help my audience make this connection of all three texts working together to advertise my new release.

 Do you think these three texts perform different functions in the overall marketing of the film?

My poster for example I feel would work best before the release of my film within the cinema as this would create the initial buzz and excitement of my target audience and get them talking about the new release. This buzz would also create a conversation between my target audience in playgrounds and social events and be planned ahead. This type of advertisement at this time would be done through ‘word of mouth’. My poster I felt would work best advertised on a large scale through the idea of build boars especially  located around and within busy town areas where I feel my young teenage target audience appear to spend the majority of their time and money. I also felt they would work on bus stop poster boars and along side the bus where we constantly see the new release films and blockbuster films being advertised as the buses also again travel into town and along the bus routes of houses. I also  noticed that buses seem to pick students up from within school playgrounds and are full of young children which I felt again would advertise well amongst their every day location as well as amongst the word of mouth. The other idea that I have seen was also the way that posters and cardboard cut outs of posters are blow up in huge proportions actually within the cinemas themselves like ‘cineworld’ and are advertised as soon as we walk in the doors and are repeated above the entrances to the films screen. This again would exaggerate the colours and unique style through this huge scale.

After the poster I felt the idea of releasing my trailer would work well through such TV spots through the advertisements on such channels as CITV and CBBC where I felt the younger generation of my target audience would again be seen using this channel more than others due to their age range of cartoons and comics that I also felt would work along side my idea of using animation. This is the prefect channel to advertise my animation as it’s childlike, colourful and energetic with the music along side the other cartoons. Another environment that my trailer would also typically be seen would be again within the cinema itself where the credits before each film are shown. This is the time where trailers are most seen and people pay attention due to the waiting of their film and finding their seats. The idea of being a dark room and a place where silence is required gives my trailer the perfect concisions to be advertised and appreciated at its most. Of course my trailer again would not be advertised within the credits of a horror film waiting to show but maybe that of a children’s animated comedy like Disney films like Alice in wonderland and DreamWorks pictures such as shrek where my target audience and families are waiting.

Lastly my magazine, I feel would be advertised through the use of supermarkets and newsagents amongst the older children and younger teenagers section such as ‘Mad’ and ‘Disney’ magazines that also advertise this idea of using animation where it works amongst the younger generation. The magazine section within the supermarkets are usually around the snack and food section where younger teenagers also tend to spent their money and time gathering snacks for films and general pick up their weekly magazine issue. This would give my magazine a much better chance of being spotted. Newsagents for example also use the idea of placing the newspapers and magazines nearer to the till area where people look at while they load their goods onto the counter and have a browse. To get my trailer advertised on the cover of ‘Entertainment Weekly’s’ magazine cover I would have had to firstly ask the permission of the magazine company itself and the release of the issue and magazine would not be up to me the producer but again the magazine company ‘Entertainment Weekly’.

Did you create a link between the Magazine Cover and Poster?

Yes I tried to make this link as easily recognizable as possible for my audience to establish. In both media texts I used this idea of a colour theme (red, black and white) which I initially chose due to that of my main title which used very typical childlike primary colours that clashed together to bring out the importance of one from the other. I my poster I used the red to highlight the importance of the title as well as using the striped busy background effect to instantly attract my audiences attention due to the vibrancy of it all. I also used the same main characters image within all three media texts using different techniques that worked well with each one. The magazine for example I decided to keep rather simple using this idea of a red bow tie to link this idea of using a colour theme to direct my audience around the front cover, this was the same for the trailer as well as I only gave the idea of a main character away through the idea of using a Polaroid profile of my character simply being in full costume, stereotypically denoting this idea of a geek. The poster how ever I exaggerated and advertised my idea of using animation by editing the photograph of my character to being that of a cartoon which appeared hand drawn. The main title was also very important to keep throughout out all three of my media texts so that my audience would instantly pick out the logo and know what the film was.

Looking at your audience feedback, how does the audience feel about how people are represented in your images? 

Through my audience feedback in noticed that without the advertisement and help of my magazine cover and the poster my audience didn’t really get the chance to know any  of my character within my trailer itself I deliberately didn’t give much away at all in the sense of a narrative or introducing of the characters. The only glimpse that they got from a character was the idea of the picture and profile at the end of my trailer giving them an insight into the idea of a stereotypical nerd which they seemed to grasp the idea of instantly at first look. They got this through the idea of using braces, a bow ties, glasses and general school uniform. By using a very stereotypical looking nerd they also appeared to understand that my trailer would involve some comedy aspects along with the animation side of things simply on the outfit creating such a laugh.

From what I gathered through the use of the questionnaires they all enjoyed the unique animation idea and felt they would go and see to experience something new and exciting due to the colours and the movement and the music, but they all said that they would have liked to see more in the way o characters which could have been used through the idea of combining real footage along with the animation which would have given them more of a narrative and atmosphere. This would have also established the idea of the comedy aspect as well.  

Here you can see some audience feedback using a questionnaire that I gave to my audience while watching my trailer in front of them. I gave them as long as they liked to process their thoughts before recording it down through the help of questions. I used a range of ages from 12-18 which I felt would give me a wider response and to also see if my target audience was correct.

I felt that using this idea of scanning in the different sheets and answers would be effective and easier to see by simply clicking on each image and then reading one at a time before clicking on the next. This also allows me to flick back and forth between answers when I needed.
